AVA has embraced multimedia technology to become an art project that encompasses a wide vision of human themes, all imprinted with a unique musical soundtrack. The innovative experience that is AVA supports an independent ethos that unites several different artistic mediums, including not only self-released songs and albums but videos, films, live events and a novel approach to fan-artist interaction. The group of friends and like-minded musicians who make up AVA includes frontman/guitarist Tom DeLonge (from blink-182); guitarist David Kennedy (from Hazen Street and Box Car Racer); drummer Atom Willard (from The Offspring and Rocket from the Crypt); and Matt Wachter (from 30 Seconds to Mars), who joined in 2007. But the band’s goal from the beginning was to create an artistic spirit that departed significantly in style and scope from any of the musicians’ previous efforts. Their resulting vision is an unparalleled multi-sensory experience that engages both imagery and sound. AVA has released three studio albums: 2006’s gold-certified We Don’t Need to Whisper; 2007’s I-Empire, which rocketed into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top 200 charts; and 2010’s free downloadable album, LOVE. To date, AVA has sold more than two million albums worldwide and given away nearly one million downloads of LOVE. AVA’s albums have featured chart-topping singles that became mainstays at modern rock stations around the globe. The band's fourth studio album—LOVE Part Two—is due out this fall on 11-11-11, alongside the release of the critically-acclaimed independent film, LOVE. In addition to his frontman duties, DeLonge was also executive producer of the accompanying feature film. As part of the band’s vision for crossing over into different mediums, AVA also created the soundtrack for the film. Fans will have a variety of choices when they want to step into AVA’s world on November 11th, with LOVE Part Two available for purchase as an album on its own, or as a package that includes both LOVE and LOVE Part Two albums as well as the movie LOVE on DVD. The album’s lead single is “Surrender,” an arena-ready anthem that imagines a global youth movement rising up “from the White House lawn to the Middle East,” envisioning a defiant mass of bodies dancing while bombs drop all around them. Another key track, “One Last Thing,” finds DeLonge detailing a long list of modern life’s many distractions, painting a picture of confusion and excess that entails what it means to be “living large in America,” as jangling guitars and a stuttering beat lift the tune into transcendence. The band also just released a stunning, high-tech video for “Anxiety,” which features the band giving an energetic performance of the epic track. The clip was filmed at the state-of-the-art Sky Church venue at Seattle’s Experience Music Project Museum, which boasts the world’s largest indoor video screen and a 48,000-Watt sound system. Earlier this summer, on August 10th, Angels & Airwaves Presents LOVE Live was broadcast to more than 460 movie theaters nationwide, during a special event that began with an introduction of LOVE from DeLonge. Fans were then treated to a screening of the thought-provoking feature, which explores the psychological effects of isolation when an astronaut becomes stranded in space, while he orbits a dying Earth below. Angels & Airwaves then took to the stage for a high-energy live performance of three songs, and finally debuted the music video for “Anxiety.” The story of AVA continues as an evolving platform for the band’s multi-faceted ideas, and is hosted online through Modlife at www.angelsandairwaves.com. Co-founded by AVA mastermind Tom DeLonge, Modlife is a fully integrated website that connects fans with bands by utilizing live video broadcasts, text messaging, video blogs, mobile updating, Twitter feeds, plus offers pay-per-view experiences to watch live performances to movies and much more. The high level of interactivity allows the worldwide community of fans to create their own profiles and communicate with each other as well as the artists themselves. Angels & Airwaves were the first band to use the Modlife platform to connect directly with fans, offering them the chance to attend special soundcheck performances prior to shows, meet the band members, and participate in live video chats. Since launched by AVA in 2007, Modlife has been used by high-profile acts such as KORN, The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs and many more. Through www.angelsandairwaves.com, AVA has grown much larger than just four musicians in a band. The site continues to give fans a closer look inside the machinery of AVA’s ambitious plans, ensuring that the group’s followers can provide valuable feedback. In return, fans are the first to know about upcoming projects, appearances, and release dates. And now the wait is almost over. On 11-11-11, the next chapter in the ongoing, ever-changing saga of Angels & Airwaves will be revealed. |
